Dear Christian Science Monitor editor, Your editorial "Challenge to Castro" (10/07/03) has some errors. It states that "Cuba's constitution calls for holding a referendum if 10,000people support it." Not quite. Imagine, out of a total adult population of 6.7 million, all that is neededis 10,000 people to compel the Cuban government to hold a referendum on itssocial, economic and political system! That will make Cuba the mostdemocratic and referendum prone country in the world. [10,000 people doesnot even come to  0.25% of Cuba's total adult population]. The following are some thoughts and projections on the basis of some recent trends - There is a progressively growing desperation among the Cuban rightwing in the United States. They have  exactly 15 months to implement a plan, any plan, to overthrow the Cuban government.  Otherwise, their political days are numbered. The rightwing understands that: 1) the Bush Jr administration is in trouble and on the defensive and if Bush is defeated in 2004, then no other administration will be as friendly to them, again. 2) the growing opposition to, and difficulty with, the war in Iraq makes it less »
