Cuba Accuses US of Supporting Terrorists

Havana, May 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Monday accused the US government of supporting anti-Cuban terrorists and presented evidence linking top American diplomats with local counterrevolutionary groups.

The evidence was presented by the director of the Foreign Ministry's North American Department, Josefina Vidal, and the director of the State Security's Historical Research Center, Manuel Hevia, at a press conference held Monday in Havana.

The chief of the US Interest Section in Havana, Michael Parmly and other US diplomats have acted as "common couriers" between Cuban counterrevolutionary Martha Beatriz Roque and terrorist Santiago Alvarez, who is currently serving time in a US prison, the officials claimed.

According to Hevia, American diplomats carried mails and funds sent by Alvarez to Roque and other Cuban mercenaries through the so-called Fundacion Rescate Juridica, a Miami-based organization.

Vidal called "unusual" and "outrageous" the role played by US diplomats. The director of the Foreign Ministry's North American Department also wondered whether such attitude is part of the new US Cuba policy outlined in the so-called Bush plan's secret appendix.
