Wikileaks: Autogol en Suiza y silencio en La Habana

Nyon es una pequeña ciudad suiza, ubicada algo al Norte de Ginebra. Aunque Nyon tiene una historia bastante antigua -se dice que fue fundada por los romanos- su notoriedad contemporánea está asociada al hecho de ser la sede de la Unión Europea de Fútbol, la célebre UEFA que organiza la copa homónima. Pues, hablando en términos futbolísticos, la localidad suiza de apenas 17 000 habitantes ha sido el escenario de un autogol para la diplomacia norteamericana.
Resulta que a Nyon ha ido a residir uno de los autores de los cables dados a conocer por Wikileaks, el señor Michael Parmly, ex Jefe de la Oficina de Intereses de Estados Unidos (SINA) en Cuba. En una reseña biográfica, publicada por el gobierno estadounidense, no se recogen vínculos del señor Parmly con el fútbol, aunque sí aparecen otros datos interesantes que lo ubican, en momentos claves, en lugares donde han ocurrido acontecimientos de alto interés para Estados Unidos. Por ejemplo, de febrero a mayo de 2003, el señor Parmly sirvió como representante del Departamento de Estado en Kandahar, Afganistán, y de 1987 a 1989 fue Consejero Político en Rumania. Obvia decir que en ambos países estaba sucediendo, durante la presencia de Parmly, lo que EE.UU. denomina un "cambio de régimen", exactamente lo que el vecino del Norte proclamó como su política oficial hacia Cuba durante la época en que el actual inquilino de Nyon residió en La Habana. El ahora diplomático retirado es descrito como profesor de estudios de Seguridad Nacional en el National War College, especializado en situaciones "posteriores a conflictos", algo que puede explicar su obsesión por el futuro de Cuba en los cables que envió desde La Habana y que expusiera en una entrevista al Miami Herald, recién llegado a la Isla, el 25 de diciembre de 2005, al afirmar: "mi interés es el futuro".
No sabemos si por vanidad, por prepotencia, o porque como él mismo dice, cree en el "puntillismo", el señor Michael Parmly ha salido a anotarle desde Nyon un autogol a la ya bastante castigada portería del Departamento de Estado. El hecho es que en una entrevista al diario suizo Le Temps míster Parmly dijo que se "molestaría mucho si las numerosas conversaciones que he mantenido con la bloguera Yoani Sánchez se publicasen". Otra vez tenemos que acudir a la biografía del exdiplomático para precisar que concluyó su misión en Cuba en Julio de 2008, cuando apenas comenzaba laarrolladora recolección de premios de la señora Sánchez, pero el máximo representante de Estados Unidos en Cuba tuvo tiempo para "numerosas conversaciones" con la bloguera. Se trata, además, de encuentros secretos porque ni él ni su interlocutora -que supuestamente es defensora de la transparencia informativa y el periodismo independiente, razón por la que le han otorgado quince galardones internacionales- quieren que se conozcan.
Transcurridos varios días de esta revelación, Yoani Sánchez guarda silencio y, como ha sucedido también con su encuentro con la Subsecretaria de Estado Bisa Williams -contenido en un cable publicado por Wikileaks- tampoco ninguno de los medios extranjeros acreditados en Cuba, que muchas veces han actuado como amplificadores de las comas y los puntos escritos por la célebre bloguera, ha recogido la información. Me pregunto si será porque, como el exjefe de la SINA, ellos también han sostenido "numerosas conversaciones" con la afamada personalidad que los supera en premios, dinero y hasta en acceso a los funcionarios norteamericanos, incluyendo al presidente Obama.
Seguramente, después de leer esto -y tomando en cuenta el curriculum de Parmly- habrá quien recuerde que la ubicación de Suiza en el corazón de Europa, su controvertida política de neutralidad, sus instituciones financieras, y su condición de sede de un grupo de organismos de las Naciones Unidas han facilitado su utilización en el cine y la literatura como escenario para historias de espionaje. Casualmente, es Suiza el país donde residió Yoani Sánchez, al emigrar de Cuba por razones económicas, según propia declaración en el perfil de su blog. Pero yo prefería asociar este affaire inconcluso, aGuillermo Tell, la leyenda llevada al teatro por Friedrich Schiller, en que la puntería de un patriota suizo salva la vida de su hijo al atravesar con una flecha la manzana colocada sobre su cabeza. Porque el hecho de residir en Suiza no ha influido para nada en la puntería del señor Parmly, cuyo "puntillismo" lo ha llevado a anotar goles en la portería que custodian cada vez con más trabajo sus antiguos jefes y atravesar el corazón de la credibilidad del fantoche que su "interés en el futuro" ayudó a crear en La Habana.

YOANI SANCHEZ LA BLOGUERA CUBANA DEBE SINCERARSE CON SU PUEBLO Y DAR A CONOCER LO QUE SABE
Ella sabe mejor que nadie el tremendo daño que hace a su propia gente el seguir trabajando para la administracion yanki, para los enemigos de Cuba asentados en Miami. Ella debe abandonar sus irresponsables acciones de desprestigio al gobierno cubano. Ahora tiene quizas su última oportunidad de dar a conocer todo lo referente a las intromisiones que buscan desastibilizar a Fidel y su revolucion.
hay evidencias que la realidad en cuanto se presenta al lector debe estar mas que comentada o relativizada por quien la esta llevando a otra con motivo de recrear lo que se ve en quien hace de esta como propia a través de su posición y los planteamientos que surgen de esta. En realidad quien habla desde un blog y le caen como regalados casi como si un continuo cumpleaños cumpliese cantidades de premios, hablando de Yoani Sanchez o de quienes estan detras de wikileaks o a quien le llegara la hora de recibir algún premio, merecido o no sabría que el más allá se expresa de mil maneras mas del que aquien con que justificados impulsos de independencia se inicia en sus menesteres profesionales puede haber imaginado.
En muchos casos podrá saberse que un diplomático como al que se refiere este artículo sin duda a recibido como un legado el premio y cargo de una embajada o consulado. No hay intereses que no reparen en el futuro. Para quien gobierna, para quien ejerce aunque mas no sea la autoría de este artículo que firma como propio, podrá comprender que hay puntillismo hasta en quien está leyendo. Quien podría sino defender la independencia...., la libertad es la capacidad de actuar y la forma es lo que nos da mayor integridad para trascender esta. Hay sin duda sujetos cautivos que son testimonio de que cuando la forma no es concebida en libertad se expresan de modo mas que tangible, en forma clara y transformadora, allí puede en paz la revolución actuar y perpetrar un nuevo modo de llegar a ser, con sus intereses y con sus propias alternativas de cara al futuro sin temor ni falsas expectativas.

Yesterday WikiLeaks did an amazing thing and released a classified State Department cable that dealt, in part, with me and my film, ‘Sicko.’
It is a stunning look at the Orwellian nature of how bureaucrats for the State spin their lies and try to recreate reality (I assume to placate their bosses and tell them what they want to hear).
The date is January 31, 2008. It is just days after ‘Sicko’ has been nominated for an Oscar as Best Documentary. This must have sent someone reeling in Bush’s State Department (his Treasury Department had already notified me they were investigating what laws I might have broken in taking three 9/11 first responders to Cuba to get them the health care they had been denied in the United States).
Former health insurance executive Wendell Potter recently revealed that the insurance industry — which had decided to spend millions to go after me and, if necessary, “push Michael Moore off a cliff” — had begun working with anti-Castro Cubans in Miami in order to have them speak out and smear my film.
So, on January 31, 2008, a State Department official stationed in Havana took a made up story and sent it back to his HQ in Washington. Here’s what they concocted:
XXXXXXXXXXXX stated that Cuban authorities have banned Michael Moore’s documentary, “Sicko,” as being subversive. Although the film’s intent is to discredit the U.S. healthcare system by highlighting the excellence of the Cuban system, he said the regime knows the film is a myth and does not want to risk a popular backlash by showing to Cubans facilities that are clearly not available to the vast majority of them.
Sounds convincing, eh?! There’s only one problem — ‘Sicko’ had just been playing in Cuban theaters. Then the entire nation of Cuba was shown the film on national television on April 25, 2008! The Cubans embraced the film so much so it became one of those rare American movies that received a theatrical distribution in Cuba. I personally ensured that a 35mm print got to the Film Institute in Havana. Screenings of ‘Sicko’ were set up in towns all across the country.
But the secret cable said Cubans were banned from seeing my movie. Hmmm.
We also know from another secret U.S. document that “the disenchantment of the masses [in Cuba] has spread through all the provinces,” and that “all of Oriente Province is seething with hate” for the Castro regime. There’s a huge active underground rebellion, and “workers there readily give all the support they can,” with everyone involved in “subtle sabotage” against the government. Morale is terrible throughout all the branches of the armed forces, and in the event of war the army “will not fight.” Wow — this cable is hot!
Of course, this secret U.S. cable is from March 31, 1961, three weeks before Cuba kicked our asses at the Bay of Pigs.
The U.S. government has been passing around these “secret” documents to itself for the past fifty years, explaining in painstaking detail how horrible things are in Cuba and how Cubans are quietly aching for us to come back and take over. I don’t know why we write these cables, I guess it just makes us feel better about ourselves. (Anyone curious can find an entire museum of U.S. wish fulfillment cables on the website of the National Security Archive.)
So what do you do with about a false “secret” cable, especially one that involves you and your movie? Well, you wait for a responsible newspaper to investigate and shout what it discovers from the rooftops.
But yesterday WikiLeaks gave the ‘Sicko’ Cuba cable to the media — and what did they do with it? They ran it as if it were true! Here’s the headline in the Guardian:

Authorities feared footage of gleaming hospital in Michael Moore’s Oscar-nominated film would provoke a popular backlash
And not one scintilla of digging to see if Cuba had actually banned the movie! In fact, just the opposite. The right wing press started to have a field day reporting a lie (Andy Levy of Fox — twice — Reason Magazine, Spectator and Hot Air, plus a slew of blogs). Sadly, even BoingBoing and my friends at the Nation wrote about it without skepticism. So here you have WikiLeaks, who have put themselves on the line to find and release these cables to the press — and traditional journalists are once again just too lazy to lift a finger, point and click their mouse to log into Nexis or search via Google, and look to see if Cuba really did “ban the film.” Had just ONE reporter done that, here’s what they would have found:

OK, so we know the media is lazy and sucks most of the time. But the bigger issue here is how our government seemed to be colluding with the health insurance industry to destroy a film that might have a hand in bringing about what the Cubans already have in their poverty-ridden third world country: free, universal health care. And because they have it and we don’t, Cuba has a better infant mortality rate than we do, their life expectancy is just 7 months shorter than ours, and, according to the WHO, they rank just two places behind the richest country on earth in terms of the quality of their health care.
That’s the story, mainstream media and right-wing haters.
Now that you’ve been presented with the facts, what are you going to do about it? Are you gonna attack me for having my movie played on Cuban state television? Or are you gonna attack me for not having my movie played on Cuban state television?
You have to choose one, it can’t be both.
And since the facts show that the movie played on state TV and in theaters, I think you’re better off attacking me for having my films played in Cuba.

La realidad es que ninguna persona que se vincula a los agentes de la Oficina de "Intereses" de los USA en Cuba puede tener credibilidad en sus posiciones. No la tienen El Camajan ni Laura Polla ni las Damas del "verde". Oportunistas y mercenarios. Cualquier criterio para tener el derecho de ser escuchado debe partir desde posiciones éticas, no manchado con las vilezas del Imperio.
